In an effort to provide life-giving care to those who need it, Headwaters will remain open. Our team is committed to the safety and the well-being of each client, and we recognize that people with substance use disorders and their families may need us more than ever. We will continue to accept new clients and provide an environment in which each individual’s health is the top priority.

Highlights of Headwaters’ response:

As a whole, we have implemented precautions to lessen the opportunity for exposure to COVID-19. In order to accomplish this, we have executed the following safety procedures:

  • We test all clients immediately on arrival to our campuses.
  • Visitors (non-clients) are only welcome on campus if they have been vaccinated.
  • All staff must report to nursing for a temperature check before entering any client care area.
  • Site-specific plans to ensure the highest level of infection prevention and control, sanitation, and hygiene are being used throughout our campuses.

We will continue to monitor information and implement recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as state and local public health authorities.


In order to ensure the safety of our clients and staff, we have temporarily suspended some of our in-person alumni events. In these uncertain times, the Alumni Care Team would like to remind our alumni to stay connected. There are lots of ways to do this virtually – our Alumni Community is active on the Headwaters Connect App, and you can join the app now by texting “ORIGINS” to 555888. Our bi-weekly “Life in the 12” webinar will be shifting to a weekly event hosted every Wednesday at 11:30A CST/12:30P EST. We encourage you to listen to our previous webinars, as well as our Podcast “Headwaters: Something More”, co-hosted by Florida Alumni Director Cara O’Neill, for additional strength and hope. Support is an essential part of the recovery journey. Before heading to a recovery meeting, it is crucial to evaluate your overall health. Because the virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person, between people who are in close contact with one another, taking precautions can limit exposure to the virus and ensure safety to yourself and others. Below are steps you can take to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick.
  • Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.


We will continue to monitor COVID-19, as well as prepare an environment that is safe for all current and future clients. We understand the risk of social isolation for those with substance use disorders, and while necessary during this time, we also are here to provide a clear path to healing and restoration.
